Pioneers of laser cladding in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere

The first company in the Southern Hemisphere to commission laser cladding technology. Over 25 years of precision surface engineering – rebuilding, protecting, and extending the life of your most critical components.

What is Laser Cladding?

A precision metallurgical bonding process — not a coating. We rebuild and armour-coat critical components at a level of quality that conventional welding, chrome plating, or thermal spray simply cannot match.

  • True metallurgical bond — the deposited material fuses into the parent — not a surface coating that can delaminate.
  • Minimal heat-affected zone — far less thermal distortion than conventional welding, often eliminating post-processing steps.
  • Near-pore-free deposits — dense, non-porous structure delivers superior wear and corrosion protection.
  • Precise and controlled — targets only the required area, preserving original dimensions and minimising material waste.
  • Adjustable thickness — single or multiple passes allow thin or layered coatings to exact specification.
  • Faster turnaround — often quicker than chrome plating or sourcing a new OEM part from overseas.
  • Environmentally responsible — no hexavalent chromium, no hazardous chemicals. Cleaner than chroming and HVOF.
01

Laser focus

A high-powered laser beam is focused onto the component surface, creating a small controlled molten pool.

02

Power feed

Carefully selected metallic powder — matched to your exact service environment — is fed into the molten pool.

03

Metallurgical fusion

The powder fuses with the parent material, forming a fully metallurgical bond as it rapidly solidifies.

04

Finish and return

Minimal machining required. Component is returned to as-new — or better-than-new — condition, fast.

Applications & Industries

Any component subject to wear, impact, corrosion, or fatigue is a candidate. If you’re not sure — call us. We’d rather assess the job than miss tha opportunity.

⚙️

Hydraulic Cylinder Rods

Reclaim cylinder rods when chrome plating cannot be reapplied or significant damage has occurred. Restores to as-new or better condition – a direct, superior replacement for hard chrome.

Bearing Journals, Spindles & Hubs

Restore wheel spindles, hubs, and electric rotors to precise dimensional tolerances with dramatically extended service life.

Pins, Shafts, Struts & Yokes

Precision reconditioning and wear-surface enhancement to extend lifespan of high-wear drivetrain and structural components.

Gear Pinions & Support Sleeves

A cost-effective reclamation alternative to expensive OEM replacement- faster delivery, superior material performance, tailored to your operating conditions.

Complex & Irregular Geometry

5-axis robotic cladding handles flat gearbox faces, bolt-hole patterns, spiral blade hardfacing on oil & gas stabilisers, and more. if it’s complex – we can do it.

New Component Pre-Protection

Apply engineered surface layers to new components before first use – dramatically extending service life before the first wear cycle even begins.

Why Swanson Industries

🏆

25+ Years — Southern Hemisphere Pioneers

We commissioned the first laser cladding system in the Southern Hemisphere. Our depth of knowledge in materials science, process parameters, and real-world applications is unmatched.

🤖

Latest Generation 12-Axis Robotic System

Complex geometries, irregular shapes, internal bores, flat surfaces — our new robotic laser handles work that was previously impossible or impractical anywhere else in the country.

🛠️

Application-Matched Material Selection

We don’t apply a generic coating. We understand your service environment and select the cladding material — from Stellite to Tungsten Carbide — to outperform the original OEM specification.

Faster Than Ordering New

Local high-speed processing beats waiting months for OEM parts from overseas. We get your components back — better than before — faster than any offshore supply chain can.

🌿

ESG-Aligned — Reclaim, Don’t Replace

Extend component life rather than discard and replace. Laser cladding supports circular economy goals, reduces embodied carbon, and eliminates hazardous chrome plating processes.

TALK TO OUR LASER TEAM

Whether you have a worn component, a refurbishment challenge, or simply want to understand what laser cladding can do for your operation — reach out. We assess every enquiry and regularly take on non-standard and complex applications.
